Jericho misses a Lionsault, and in return RVD misses a Five Star Frog Splash. RVD launches Jericho into the ropes but Jericho landson the ropes, comes down and has a short sequence with RVD, then rolls him up with his feet on the ropes for leverage but once again can’t pick up the win. Jericho tries to get the Walls of Jericho but RVD reverses it into a rollup, once again only a 2 count. A Split Legged Moonsault from RVD also only results in a 2. Jericho lands a hell of a German Suplex on RVD but once again has to settle froa 2 count. Jericho hits an Enzuguri, but can only get a two count off of it. RVD is really landing a barrage of kicks now. RVD hits Jericho with a spinning heel kick and another kick when he comes off the ropes. Jericho comes running at him, but RVD moves and Jericho goes shoulder first into the ring post. RVD fights out of a submission and backs up into the corner. He gains control for a short moment, but Jericho quickly comes back. Jericho has RVD’s head resting on the ropes and tries to jump on him, but RVD moves. Jericho begins to choke RVD with his wrist tape. The referee doesn’t notice it until too late so it’s only a 2 count. The referee is putting it back on and RVD puts Jericho in an inside cradle.
Jericho gets frustrated that he can’t finish off RVD and removes the turnbuckle cover. He goes up for a Five Star Frog Splash, but Jericho pushes the referee against the ropes, which racks RVD and then Jericho goes up and hits RVD with a Double Arm Superplex. Jericho gets back in and RVD hits him with a flying kick off the top rope. Jericho tries to jump off the turnbuckle and dropkick RVD off the ring but misses and RVD hits him with a dive to the outside. RVD does the ‘RVD’ thing in Jericho’s face and Jericho slaps him, which leads to RVD finally taking control of the match, but not for long as Jericho goes on the offense. After a short ‘RVD’ chant, they start off chain wrestling with both trying to gain an advantage over the other. JR and King welcome us, and we go straight to the first matchup.Ĭhris Jericho vs Rob Van Dam Ĭompetitor wise, this has the potential to be a fantastic match. I also miss when pay per views had unique sets. This is hopefully the last time I ever should hear this damn Ride of Your Life song. We open with a video package highlighting past editions of King of the Ring and their winners, before the four remaining tournament members are shown and there are soundbites over the video from three of them and Paul Heyman representing Brock Lesnar.
